Kenya Seeks Donor Fund For New Constitution
Nairobi,Kenya.……30thNov,2009. Kenya is calling on the international community to fund the process of getting a new constitution. So far, the Committee of Experts which is has been tasked to help the country get a new constitution has spent over kshs.404.66 million against a set budget of kshs.1.2 billion.Kenyan Prime Minister, Raila Odinga called on the international community to help raise the funds in order to help the country realise its dream for a new constitution which Kenyans have tried to change over the last 20 year with no success.
The Prime Minister said after the publication of a harmonize Draft two weeks ago, that Kenyans now have a better chance to have a new constitution, but lack of funds is overshadowing the effort. If the money is raised on time Kenyans can have a new constitution after the draft is subjected to a referendum by March 2010 and help the country get reforms which are needed to help the country get rid of poor governance and corruption which is deep rooted across the nation.
The Premier was addressing members of the diplomatic corps and donors in a workshop dubbed Development Partnership Forum which is organized by the world bank. Kenya plans to use the meeting to get the international community to fund different projects that are now stalled for lack of funds.
