VOA Journalist Injured By Security Forces in Somalia

A Somali Journalist who works for VOA Somali section was injured on Tuesday night by the Puntland security forces in North Galkayo, Mudug Region in Central Somalia. “Mohamed Yasin Ishaq VOA Somali section stringer was injured when Puntland security forces in North Galkayo fired at him while he was driving a car to towards his home in Galkayo” a news reporter in Galkayo who requested to be anonymous told Newstime Africa on the phone. He added that Mohamed was wounded on the right arm and he is receiving treatment in Galkayo Medical Hospital “they wanted to kill but he was injured” he adds.

Muse Ahmed Hasasi, a Puntland police officer in North Galkayo explained that the security forces fired the car of Mohamed VOA Somali service stringer and injured him “He was driving in very high speed and the security forces in an impulsive response assuming that the driver was a terrorist determined to unleash carnage shot at his car and killed him” Muse Ahmed Hasasi said.

According to local journalists in Galkayo a number of media reporters were assaulted on Monday by the security forces “There was a security meeting held between Puntland officials and the elders of Galkayo where officials called us to cover the event but the security forces assaulted and threatened us” another journalist who works for a local Radio in Galkayo and requested not to be named told Newstime Africa. Puntland, which is home to one-third of Somalia’s population, was declared a semi-autonomous region in 1998.
