Vicky Fornah: Sierra Leone’s Music Sensation

On the mega music video site, YouTube, Sierra Leone music has indeed taken its place amongst the genre of afro beat and African music videos.One noticeable name that springs up when you do search for Sierra Leone music videos is Vicky Fornah. Her blend of gospel and tradition Sierra Leone music flavor has earned her a reputation as the country’s music Queen. Not only has she dominated the charts in Sierra Leone, she is also becoming a music superstar across the West Africa Region. She was recently in the Gambia where she joined other West African musicians in a musical showcase that drew crowds of music fan in the small West African nation

Ms Vicky Fornah was born in Sierra Leone; she is a highly acclaimed and popular gospel singer. Vicky has some of the highest selling CD’s in Freetown starting from her first album in 1995 entitled DON’T BEND THE LAW. This album was a hit up till when Vicky traveled to the United States in 1997. Since then she has just created one gospel hit after another – God has a plan for you, Cry Africa, Hold my hand, Sweet Motherland.

Vicky released another breakthrough album in Dec 2008 entitled THANK YOU. She has received multiple awards for a career well managed, such as Best Female Artist, Best Selling Album, just to name a few. Vicky is head of the Sierra Leone Female Musicians Association in Sierra Leone that encourages young female artists in Sierra Leone to achieve their goals. She is indeed an outstanding performer.
