Kenyan Government to Continue With Crackdown on Illegal Immigrants

20th January 2010   ·   0 Comments  ·   By Paul Mwaura

Prof George Saitoti

Kenyan government has remained firm on the crackdown on illegal immigrants, with Internal Security Minister Professor George Saitoti saying it was a matter of national security and not targeted at any community or religion. Although, Saitoti`s sentiments contradicts police operations which have been targeting Somali’s neighbourhood in Eastleigh, Komarock and South ‘C’ and different hotels in the capital, Nairobi believed to be housing them for the last three nights. The Minister said security forces were concerned with the dangers posed by illegal aliens in the country, particularly Somalia’s Al-Shabaab sympathisers whom he blamed for taking part in demonstrations last Friday. “Regardless of our political or religious differences, we must all stand together when it comes to the security of this country”, Saitoti added.

“Foreigner who have no legal documents must go back to their country or we will deport them because no country allows aliens without legal document and Kenya cannot be exceptional,” The minister further added. The Internal security minister maintained that the Jamaican cleric Sheikh Al-Faisal stay in the country pretense a great danger to the national security and the government was working on modalities to deport him in his country of origin and it was only a matter of time before he was deported. Newstime Africa has however learnt that Al-Faisal could be deported tonight since he is to appear in court tomorrow following court ruling last week that he do so.
