Al-Shabaab Captures Key Somali Town
Rag-Tag Army Al-Shabaab
Al-Qaeda proxy in Somalia, Al-Shabaab has seized a Somali town near the Kenyan border which resulted in civilians fleeing towards the neighbouring country. The rebel group moved into the town of Dhobley after Hizbul Islam a rival rebel group fled the town. The two rebel groups have been fighting the Western-backed government in the capital Mogadishu but recently fell out over the control of the lucrative southern port of Kismayu.
One official of Al-Shabaab was quoted as saying “We got Dhobley without any war against us. Now it is under the control of the mujahideen. We will continue our fight against the infidels till we eradicate them from the region,” Al-Shabaab intentions are to impose its own strict version of sharia law throughout Somalia. It has even banned music, sport, videos, and shaving. Graves hav been desecrated, rival clerics have been behead and women accused of adultery have been publicly stoned to death. Al-Shabaab comprises a ragtag army made up of mostly illiterate Somali’s that have been forcefully recruited or indoctrinated by a bunch of Islamic fundamentalists bent on causing mayhem in the region.
