CAIRO (AA) – The Canadian embassy in Cairo was closed Monday, according to a recorded message on its phone line that gave no explanation for the move.
However, a statement by the Canadian embassy in Cairo on its website said: “The ability to provide consular services may occasionally be limited for short periods due to unsettled security conditions.”
The move comes only one day after the British embassy, located steps away, took a similar measure.
“Security concerns are behind Sunday’s decision by the British embassy in Cairo to suspend its activities until a further notice,” a source at the British embassy, who requested anonymity, told The Anadolu Agency on Sunday.
“The procedure reflects our best assessment as to what it necessary for preserving the security of the embassy and its staff,” the source, requesting anonymity, added.
