JOHANNESBURG (AA) – Two South African court officers were shot on Tuesday morning inside Pretoria’s Magistrates Court and rushed to hospital.
The South African Police Services said on Twitter that two court orderlies had been shot near the court’s holding area by suspects awaiting trial.
It gave no further details about the incident.
The Police Communications Department is expected to issue an official statement.
Local media said the injured police officers have been taken to hospital, while the two assailants had fled the scene after the shooting.
The incident is likely to stir public debate about court security, according to an Anadolu Agency correspondent in South Africa.
