Al-Bayda’a attack leaves 5 Yemeni soldiers dead

Some of the attackers were killed as well, while others were wounded, the source said

SANAA (AA) – Five Yemeni soldiers were gunned down late on Friday and a sixth wounded in an attack by suspected Al-Qaeda militants on a security checkpoint in the central province of Al-Bayda’, a security source said.

The source, who asked not to be named, added that the militants attacked the security checkpoint as the soldiers were breaking their fast at dusk, leaving five soldiers dead and a sixth wounded.

“Some of the attackers were killed as well, while others were wounded,” the source told Anadolu Agency.

Al-Bayda’s is one of the strongholds of Al-Qaeda in Yemen due to the mountainous nature of the province and the fact that some of its tribesmen offer protection to the members of the militant organization.

Yemen has suffered deteriorating security conditions since 2011.
