President Banda thanks Malawians for their support as she seeks her own mandate to govern the country

In the count down to the May 20 tripartite elections and as the presidential race gets hot and hotter Peoples Party presidential candidate who is the current Malawi leader President Joyce Banda has thanked Malawians for the support rendered to government during the period she has been at the helm of the government.

President Banda observed that for the tremendous economic growth that has been achieved in the past two years speaks volumes of the goodwill people have given to her administration.

“The two years I’ve been in office have been a success because of the enormous support Malawians have given me as a leader and the entire administration. I am sure that given another term we will achieve a lot more,” President Banda said in Mangochi this week.

The president explained that the Malawi economy was growing at marginal 1.8 percent at the time she took over government but that it is now growing by 6 percent, an enviable achievement.

Banda said that the People’s Party led government has managed to turn around the economy through the economic recovery plan.

Malawi goes to the polls on May 20.
