Member countries of the World Customs Organizations (WCO) in the Eastern and Southern Africa Region will from Monday May 20 2013 converge in Malawi for three different assemblies, the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has announced.
24 Heads of Customs and Customs Experts from the Eastern and Southern Africa are expected to be in attendance which will also see two Malawi Cabinet Ministers opening two of the summits.
According to MRA Commissioner General John Biziwick the 18th Regional Steering Group to be held from 20th to 22nd May 2013 will be opened by Minister of Finance Dr. Ken Lipenga, and will be followed by the 18th Governing Council scheduled for 23rd and 24th May 2013.
And according to the schedule of events as release4d by MRA, on May 22 2013 there will be a Revised Kyoto Convention and Economic Competitiveness Package Workshop which will opened by the Minister of Trade and Industry Mr. Sosten Gwengwe.
“The Revised Kyoto Convention and Economic Competitiveness Package Workshop is a special meeting organized by World Customs Organisation for Heads of Customs Administrations that have not ascended to the Revised Kyoto Convention,” the statement reads in part.
Since its establishment in 2000 this is the first time the Malawi Revenue Authority is hosting the international tripartite meetings, which will likely draw representatives from Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Also in attendance during the five-day meet will be the World Customs Organization Secretary Kunio Mikuriya.
