One of Africa’s top movie talents, Ghanaian actress Jackie Appiah, has received the outstanding Youth Award from Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama. Appiah, who has received numerous accolades for her unique performances in some of the continent’s blockbusters, returned to Ghana after a two-week spell in the exotic Sierra Leone capital, Freetown, where she was the guest of African Young Voices Films, one of West Africa’s most enterprising film production establishments.
Jackie Appiah was in Freetown to star alongside Desmond Elliot and a host of other Sierra Leonean actors, in a sensational new film, shot entirely in the country. Sierra Leone’s movie industry is now booming, as the country offers extraordinary and fantastic scenery for movie directors to shoot without hindrance as they tell their stories to audiences across the continent and the world. The government of Sierra Leone has made the empowerment of the entertainment industry a priority, and this has paid off indeed, as Nigerian movie producers from Nollywood, line-up to take advantage of the unprecedented access on offer to the country’s beautiful infrastructures, to shoot their movies.
