Sierra Leone’s top investigative and well respected online newspaper, Freetown Confidential, is reporting that the SLPP opposition presidential candidate, Julius Maada Bio will be facing charges of extortion and criminal conduct. The newspaper is saying that the former Junta leader will be arrested and dragged to court for defrauding two international businessmen of their hard-earned cash. The matter which has been floating in cyberspace for some time, has been raised by the two businessmen informing the newspaper about their intention to pursue a private prosecution in Sierra Leone, claiming that they have instructed prosecutors in the country to start preparing court papers.
By taking such action now, the businessmen are confident that BIo will not win the elections and is not favourite in the November vote and as such they insisted, will seek the court action over failed business dealings. This is a serious blow to Maada Bio as it chips on his credibility as a formidable candidate for the presidential poll with such allegations looming over his head just before the all-important elections.
