President Koroma visits African Minerals mines site

As part of his visit to the Bumbuna Community, the Sierra Leone president,Ernest Bai Koroma, also paid an on-the-spot visit to the African Minerals Operation facility at Ferengbaia. In his welcome address the General Manager African Minerals Jan Jansen said it was an honour for him to have the President visit the site during the start of his tenure as GM for the Mines. He praised the government of Dr.Ernest Bai Koroma for his government’s untiring  support in not only starting the project here in Sierra Leone, but their continued support to reach the stage the operations at present is commendable.

This example according to the GM stands as a remarkable milestone in achieving success in mining Operations in Sierra Leone. The Iron ore deposit in the country he went on is rated as one of the world class mineral deposits. The iron ore production in Tonkolili serves as a monument and huge potential in Sierra Leone, he noted that the challenges of this phase is to scale up operations, upgrade the railway and locomotives and to complete the plant before the wet season.

The president and Resident Minister North Alie D. Kamara were both led on a conducted tour of the AML’s Mines facilities. President Ernest Bai Koroma expressed Satisfaction in the speedy development taking place at the mines; he says his government will continue to support AML to achieve its goal hence advancing development in the Country.  20 million tons of these products are set for processing by the end of next week and 10 million tons of final products will be ready for the market.

Earlier, the president had met with the Bumbuna Community where he encouraged them to maintain peace and quiet and called on all to support the AML mining operations in the district, he says the mining project and the Bumbuna hydro Dam have contributed Immensely to the development of this country, and called on them to embrace such Opportunities Coming from this part of the country. He noted that his government will also ensure that Sierra Leoneans benefit from the mining act.

President Koroma promised to provide assistance to those who lost their property and further provide treatment for the injured during the AML Workers strike action in Bumbuna sometime last month. He said the Police is charged with the responsibility of maintaining law and Order and should therefore play their role. He called on all and sundry to play their part for the speedy development of Tonkolili district and the Country as a whole.
