The commitment of the African Minerals Chairman, Frank Timis, to ensure that working conditions at the Tonkolili Iron Ore mines are of exceptional standards, have been unwavering. When some workers recently protested about salary increases, Timis personally intervened and flew directly into the small West African State to deliberate on the best deals the company can offer to its hard-working staff in the country. Timis was keen on implementing a package that would reflect the best working conditions ever offered to staff of a mining company in the country. And the consumate business icon did not fail, as not only were salaries increased but workers will also receive back-payments reflecting salaries paid since January of 2012.
The company’s local management staff, made up of some outstanding Sierra Leoneans, have been working assiduously to ensure working standards at the mines were encouraging and satisfactory. The company is currently implementing plans to establish training centers in the region that will facilitate comprehensive and hands-on practical and theoretical enhancement of workers skills to enable them to perform with full potential as it position itself as an important and vital player in the mining sector within the West Africa region. African Minerals have also been engaged in massive community development projects including the establishment of Health Centers and Educational facilities across the Northern Part of the country.
