Algeria – Four policemen shot dead in Mekla


A terrorist attack in Mekla in the Algeria’s Kabylie region has killed 4 policemen and wounded others according sources in the local medical sphere. The incident occurred Monday April 30 at around midday when the four were patrolling on the outskirts of Mekla located at 30 kilometres eastern Tizi-Ouzou. The attackers opened fire after they overtook the police’s car in the national road.

This attack perpetrated less than two weeks ahead the parliamentary elections and more than one year after the Algerian authorities lifted a state of emergency which had been in force in the country for 19 years revives debate on security issue in the Kabylie region.

Since 1992 a serious armed confrontation is ongoing between Algerian security forces and radical terrorists having refused the peace project proposed by the head of state ,Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
The population condemned this attack on the security forces in charge of securing the region and redouble awareness against terrorism issue.
