Ghana has qualified for the 2010 world cup with a 2-0 win over Sudan. The match took place in Accra the capital city of Ghana. Ghana’s first goal was scored by Inter-Milan strongman Sulley Muntari in the first half of the match and just a few minutes into the second-half Michael Essien sealed it with a fine goal that made it two. Ghana, who remains unbeaten throughout the qualifications looks set to pose a serious threat at the 2010 world cup in South Africa.
Ghana’s coach Milovan Rajevac said it was a priceless honour for team to represent their country and qualify for a big competition like the World Cup. Chelsea player, Michael Essien said it was so important to win, regardless of how they achieved the result. He said it was still special for them as professionals to return home and bring joy to the people of Ghana. He went on to say that the people of Ghana wanted them to win and that they did not let them down and that it was a fantastic feeling to be the first African country to qualify for the first World Cup to be staged in Africa.
About 1/4 of the 32 qualifying nations for the first FIFA World Cup to be staged in Africa are now known, with Ghana joining Australia, Brazil, Japan, the Netherlands, Korea DPR, Korea Republic and hosts South Africa.
