The 10th Memorial Service for the late Mr. Sylvanus Fornah Koroma J.P (President Koroma’s father), commonly known as Teacher, together with the launching of the SYLVANUS KOROMA MEMORIAL FOUNDATION were over the weekend observed and launched in the Northern Town of Makeni. The Memorial Service which was attended by the Vice President Sam Sumana and wife, Ministers, Paramount Chiefs, dignitaries and people from across the country took place at the Wesleyan Church of Sierra Leone Rogbane , Makeni and the Launching of the Foundation at the Makeni Town Council.
Addressing the full to capacity Church service The National Superintendent of the Wesleyan Church in Sierra Leone Rev. Usman .J. Fornah said they were gathered to remember a great man who had served his church, people and God to the best of his ability. Quoting from the book of ST. John 14 verses 1 to 4 as consolation to the Koroma family, “Let not your heart be troubled. For in my father’s house there are many mansions, for if it were not so I would have told you” Rev Fornah said the verses are meant tos soften the minds and soul of the deprived. He encouraged them not to weep any longer assuring them that Jesus will wipe their tears. The Rev. referred to the late man as a humble and loving person who do not discriminate and lived a life admired by all. He said though there were challenges within the family as in most families but they stayed as one family.
Consolation tributes were also given by Bishop Tamba A Koroma and a family member. They described him as a very special, loving and committed man, adding that Pa Sylvanus was someone who was generous, a disciplinarian and a teacher in school, church and at home, a lay reader and a scout Master. Delivering his short address, Rev Usman Fornah referred to the late man as “Saint Sylvanus” that has set a bright example, providing Christian up bringing for his children. “This service is a blessing to the family and a cause for the family to remember their father’s greatness and for them to live as one family’ He noted. Thomas Koroma gave the vote of thanks. In another engagement the Sylvanus Koroma Memorial Foundation was launched by Mrs. Florence Turay at the City Council Town Hall. She said the Foundation will render services in among other areas, education, health, the Community and open to volunteers.
After the official launching of the Foundation’s its account at the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank was swollen to LE 115M, .with donations from Rotary International, Mercury, Zubairu Kolokoh and the Southern Region represented by their Resident Minister Moigue Kaikai. The Honorary Chairperson for the Foundation is Mrs. Alice Koroma. Members of the Foundation included among others President Koroma, Thomas, Philip, Sylvanus Koroma Jnr, Madam Admire Sesay and Mrs. Florence Turay.
