Anthony Navo – The Youth Ambassador making a huge impact on Sierra Leone’s Agenda for Change

Youth Ambassador - Anthony Navo

Every country in Africa needs a youth ambassador. Someone to represent the interests of the youths and foster a common understanding between the youths and the rest of society. The importance of a good relationship between the youths and society cannot be over-emphasised and the need for youths to have a voice in governance is even more apparent. Sierra Leone has seen a dramatic improvement in youth development and youth participation in national reconstruction. Educating and preparing  the youths of Sierra Leone for their pivotal role in society has been the priority of the government of Sierra Leone under the leadership of President Ernest Bai Koroma.

President Koroma in keeping with his commitment to carve a significant role for youths in the development agenda of his country, has established a National Youth Commission, that will empower youths around the country and listen to their concerns and liaise with government as to what support can be provided to meet their needs. Anthony Navo jr, a leading businessman in the country, was awarded the Youth Ambassador position by youth organisations in the country, in recognition of the laudable contributions he has made towards the country’s youths in particular and national development as a whole. and has been instrumental in creating awareness regarding the responsibilities of youths to society. Navo has been involved in securing a better role for youths across the different sectors of the economy, and his emphasis has been on training and equipping the youths to empower them to do more for themselves and the wider community.

Anthony Navo has heeded the President’s call for national cohesion and has admonished youths across the country about the importance government attaches to youth development.  The dynamism that this youth Ambassador has brought into his all-important role has been clearly manifested in the government’s increased priority given to youth concerns across the state . Recently whilst addressing an audience during a  one-day symposium organized by the Children United for Attitudinal and Behavioural Change campaign at the Sierra Leone Library Board, Anthony Navo said that his utmost priority for youth is education. Navo also inspired his audience by noting that choosing a career is a huge responsibility for both men and women since all are socially conditioned to value one’s own careers very highly and to mix once egos into work.

The Youth Ambassador went on to reiterate the fact that one’s career is a very important part of life and that one should not downplay its significance as a good career is one of the biggest blessings one will experience while a bad career is one of life’s greatest curses. “Many have felt the weight of their choice as this is common with students in choosing their area of studies as the questions that should be asked before choices are made were never asked” he said. Anthony Navo’s role as Youth Ambassador will provide a conduit for President’s Koroma’s Agenda for Change, which has at its heart the important role for youths in shaping our country’s future. Anthony Navo is expected to play a significant role in the soon to be implemented National Youth Commission, as he has provided an outstanding contribution in the campaign for youth involvement in national development.
