Sierra Leone’s Attorney General is Corrupt and Should Be Sacked

Abdul Serry Kamal is definitely not the type of man any government want in its cabinet. The cabinet of any government should constitute of individuals with an impeccable public service record. But I can assure you that this is not the case in Sierra Leone. There is a criminal who holds the office of Minister of Justice and Attorney General in the administration of President Ernest Bai Koroma of Sierra Leone. I challenge the so-called Honourable member to contest the fact that he has not squandered money from innocent victims of the law – people who have been innocent but found guilty because this man has constantly manipulated the legal framework of justice and fair trial for financial gain.
When a man who according to Sierra Leonean standards, is considered rich, decides to steal from the poor – it is not only disgraceful – he is not fit to hold any public office. So many families in Sierra Leone have been victims of this conman of the law who uses his position to destroy family values and tradition through bribery and corruption. There have been so many people whose inheritance from deceased family members have been stolen or diverted to wrong recipients as a result of will’s being tampered with or forged by this shameless devil’s advocate who stands accused of the most heinous crimes in the Sierra Leone society.
Any government who hires Serry Kamal is equally culpable of this man’s criminal offences as it is imperative of any President to do a thorough background check before hiring anyone into public office. It is especially difficult to comprehend how the leader of a country would have any credibility if he is seen to be appointing known criminals to high office. The office of Attorney General is the custodian of law and order and the enforcement authority of the country’s laws. It should not be occupied by anyone who has the propensity of demanding money for favours. Protecting the rights of citizens is a national responsibility that should be taken seriously. But the present government has placed at the heart of the country’s law enforcement, a man whose right place of abode should be the confinements of a prison cell.
How can justice ever be served in a country that is in desperate need for an overhaul of its judiciary – when innocent people are locked up for crimes they never commit?; When money is demanded for justice to prevail; when legal cases are twisted in favour of villains not victims; when wills are forged to benefit rogue family members; when judges are bribed to change the outcome of cases; when there is blatant interference in the legal system; when threats are made to defending counsel to step back or face consequences; when there is no law to prevent a thief from holding office; when the head of State hires an idiot to run the legal office of the country? The President of Sierra Leone needs to wake up and start acting like a man who has the interest of the people at heart. There should be no more hiding place for criminals in his government.
The ACC recently embarked on a disgraceful attempt to embarrass one of the country’s distinguished public servants – Afsatu Kabba – Who happens to be the country’s Minister of Marine Resources. This puts into question the independence of the ACC and its worthiness of purpose. Abdul Tejan Cole’s reputation is at risk if he does not consult his legal acumen and sense of discernment in the execution of his duties. This man of the law should step carefully on the corridors of justice as the fight against corruption is indeed a noble cause. The Head of the ACC should count on media apparatus like this for support, as long as he upholds the legal framework of his office. Otherwise the spotlight would be on him as he embarks on discharging his sacred duties! The state resources that is being spent to fabricate offences against Afsatu Kabba should have been well spent pursuing criminals like Abdul Serry Kamal who has a reputation for distorting the facts and presenting them as the gospel.

I think corruption is at the core of politics in our country. I don’t think that you can exclude Afsatu Kabba or any of the politicians from corrupt indecent actions.
I know both of these families personally, and within the present government their activities have been appalling.
One day we will change our country. The generation is here. BRAVO to Unity Freedom and Justice.
