Musyoka Calls on Australians to Exploit Investment Opportunities in Kenya

Kenya’s Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has called on Australian investors to exploit Kenya’s investment opportunities in energy, mining and trade. Speaking when he addressed guests at the residence of the Australian High Commissioner, in Nairobi, VP said Australian new policy on Africa, the “New African Strategy” which is hinged on accelerated investments and trade will help the continent realize its MDG while promoting peace and security among other priorities.

Mr. Musyoka said Australia is fast becoming Kenya’s crucial development partner as evident by the recent famine relief intervention and assistance in addressing refugee problem. The VP further said that Australia has recently transformed itself from a continent that was largely ignored a few years ago to its current status where it is a major destination for students and other immigrants.

The Vice President said Kenya has welcomed the adoption of a new policy towards Africa by Australia whose aim is to promote economic growth and prosperity in the impoverished continent. “We are confident that with her expertise and experience in these areas, Australia can make unique and positive contributions to Africa’s quest for prosperity” Mr. Musyoka observed.

Kalonzo also commended Australia for assisting Kenya develops its human resource base through extending scholarships and admitting many students to her universities.”We look forward to increased opportunities with the expansion of Australia’s scholarships programmes and technical assistance especially in the area of science, technology and innovation”

The Australian High Commissioner to Kenya, Ms. Lisa Silitette, assured that her country will continue to partner with Kenya in various spheres of development including education, health and water supply.

The High Commissioner pledged 100,000 Australian dollars to the Kenya Human Rights Commission this year.
